My research focus is on Ecology and General environmental studies including but not limited to Pollution, Ecophysiology and Soil microbial interaction. Other research areas include Ethnobotany/Ethnomedicine as well as General Botany. My Doctoral study was on the applicability (potential) of medicinal plants for the treatment of cancer. This was done through various research models such as ethnobotanical survey (interaction with indigenous traditional health practitioners) with goal of documenting the different plants used for treating different kinds/types of cancer in the Republic of South Africa. Their (Traditional health practitioners) knowledge of plants, and the documentation garnered from the ethnobotanical survey study opened the vista for further scientific exploration through a systematic review of literature of all the plants with anticancer properties with a view to providing a ‘’one-stop search’’ for all the plants in one robust article. After the articulation of these two aforementioned ideas, a synchronization of ideas was done by picking five of the medicinal plants for further scientific endeavor. This was done by domestic cultivation of these five plants on soils amended with a known concentration of fertilizers (organic and inorganic fertilizers) with the ultimate goal of examining the possible impact of these fertilizers on the growth, yield, nutritional status, alteration of the phytochemical constituents (secondary metabolites) of the plants, and finally efficacy of the harvested plants on apoptosis induction on MCF-7 cancer cell in vitro. Theexperiment was carried out at the Department of Biology, Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, while, the ethnobotanical survey study was done at two Pretoria city metropolis (Hamaanskraal and Winterveld), South Africa. In addition, during the doctoral program having completed my laboratory experiment, I conceptualized an idea that culminated in a review paper titled ‘’Potential medicinal, nutritive and antiviral food plants: Africa’s plausible answer to the low COVID-19 mortality’’. Interestingly, the study was conceptualized and written under lockdown condition when no one had access to any laboratory nor field research. Also, I am well acquainted with the mining and analysis of large data extracted from databases including Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Cochrane, PubMed and Epistemonikos using integrated R-studio and Mendeley to achieve bibliometric and systematic analyses. This approach was used in one of my manuscripts currently under review publications entitled “"A comprehensive review of pharmacological activity of fisetin and bibliometric study of its research progression from 2005 to 2024” among others.
I have over 20 publications in top-rated journals and all these can be assessed through my google scholar link below (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=ieJkVTAAAAAJ&hl=en). Currently, my h-index is 6 while i10-index is 4 with about 130 scholar citation. I am equally visible on Researchgate, LinkedIn etc.
